The Linden JV Softball team won another tournament this weekend knocking off Brighton 5-4 in the Championship game on Saturday Linden jumped to a 2-0 as Kylee Mason hit the first pitch of the game to deep right center field for a triple. Corissa Widner then doubled her home and Carly Frierdich knocked her home. Brighton got one in the bottom of the second to close the gap to 2-1. That the way it stayed until the top of the 4th when with one out Brooke Durkac singled, followed by singles from Cassie Most and Kaitlyn Straub. Mason then singled Durkac home. Linden scored 2 more on an error and fielders choice to take a 5-1 lead. Brighton got 2 in the bottom of the 5th to make it 5-3 which is where it stayed until the bottom of the 7th. Brighton scored one run on an error by Linden and had runners at 2nd and 3rd with one out. Frierdich battled an froze the Brighton hitter on a change-up for a called third strike!!. Frierdich got the last hitter to ground out to Widner for the final out of the game and a 5-4 victory. Cassie Most was 3-3 and Frierdich struck out 7 while allowing only 5 hits. Widner handled 8 plays at second base to lead the fielding for the Eagles. In the other 2 games Linden beat Lapeer 17-0 and Lake Fenton 14-5. Mason led the Eagles with 6 hits and 6 runs scored and tied Widner and Frierdich with 5 RBI Each. Straub was 3 for 6 with 2 walks and was instrumental in the 3 run inning vs. Brighton. Hanna Baldwin was also 5 for 9. Brooke Durkac and Drew Kinney both had 2 doubles to lead the extra base hitting for Linden. Frierdich was the winning pitcher in all 3 games.
